JPL Wastebasket Challenge
JPL's annual invention challenge provides a unique engineering problem that we are tasked to solve under specific criteria. This year, the challenge was to create a device capable of getting a piece of paper into a wastebasket over a distance of 5 meters while incorporating 3 different energy sources. My group placed 8th at the qualifying competition, landing us a spot at the finals held at JPL where we placed 10th.
Our device consisted of a spring-launchers that sent marbles through pipes to trigger a conveyor belt that carried our paper into the wastebasket. We used gravity, spring energy, and electrical energy in our design.
